Ingredients for Pumpkin Bundt Cake

No fancy ingredients are needed here! Just a little pumpkin puree and some spices out of your cabinet! As always, measurements for each ingredient can be found in the recipe card at the end of the post.

Pumpkin Cake

  • Granulated Sugar: Added for that perfectly sweet pumpkin flavor.
  • Pumpkin Puree: Be sure to use pumpkin puree instead of pumpkin pie filling! We’re going to add our own blend of spices.
  • Vegetable Oil: Used to add moisture and bind ingredients together during the baking process.
  • Eggs: Used as a binding agent!
  • All-Purpose Flour: I love using all-purpose flour for cakes. It has a low protein content and keeps your cakes light and fluffy.
  • Baking Powder: Add baking powder to make sure your cake rises properly.
  • Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a must for the perfect fall flavor!
  • Nutmeg: Adds a warm, earthy flavor.
  • Ginger: For a hint of sharp spice.
  • Cloves: Cloves are rich, floral and sweet.
  • Salt: A little salt will make your entire pumpkin bundt cake taste better!

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • Cream Cheese: Softened cream cheese is the foundation of this tasty frosting. I usually go for full-fat cream cheese for the best flavor.
  • Unsalted Butter: I use softened, unsalted butter for a rich, sweet flavor.
  • Vanilla Extract: Brings the flavor together! Use pure vanilla extract for the best results.
  • Salt: Added to balance sweetness.
  • Powdered Sugar: Powdered sugar and frosting go hand-in-hand. It adds the perfect sweetness and smooth texture.
  • Milk: Added to adjust consistency.

Making Your Cake and Frosting

Making a pumpkin bundt cake is much easier than it seems. People are surprised by how simple it is! Honestly, just as much effort is required as making a boxed cake. And the best part is- it tastes much better! In only a few easy steps, you’ll have a beautiful fall dessert on your hands. Be prepared to keep it on repeat all season!

  1. Preheat, Prep Bundt Pan: To begin, preheat your oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Grease a 10 cup bundt pan and set aside.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients with Sugar: In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, pumpkin, oil and eggs until fully combined.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and salt. Then, add the dry ingredients in with the pumpkin mixture and mix until fully combined.
  4. Add to Pan and Bake: Pour the batter into the bundt pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean from the center and the cake bounces back when gently pressed on.

How to Make Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. Combine Ingredients: First, beat the cream cheese, butter, vanilla and salt until smooth. Mix in powdered sugar. If needed, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk to get a fairly runny consistency to drizzle over the cake. Drizzle over the cooled cake. Keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Tips for Making the Best Bundt

Making a pumpkin bundt cake is pretty straightforward, but these tips and tricks can ensure you make the best cake on the block! I know you’ll love the end result just as much as I do.

  • Grease Well: Greasing your pan properly is key to a successful bundt cake. I like to use a pastry brush to get into all the nooks and crannies of my bundt pan. Then, give it a light coating of flour. Also, use shortening here! Butter can melt down in the baking process- meaning your cake will stick.
  • Add Batter Slowly: One of the best parts of using a bundt pan is that your cake comes out in a beautiful shape! To make sure it looks as nice as possible, add your batter into your pan slowly. This way, it has time to sink into those crevices. You can also use a spoon or spatula to gently push your batter in.
  • Let Your Cake Cool: After you take your cake out of the oven, let it cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes before flipping. This will help it slide out more easily.
  • Don’t Overmix: Overmixing your batter is the biggest culprit for dry, dense cakes. Stop once all ingredients are mixed together smoothly. Any more than that, and gluten will develop. This will make your cake hard and almost rubbery.
  • Fillings and Toppings: Feel free to add things like chopped pecans or walnuts to your cake batter! Nuts pair perfectly with the flavor of pumpkin spice. And as far as toppings go, add a little whipped cream, ice cream, or even a drizzle of caramel sauce!

Storing Leftover Pumpkin Bundt Cake

Since this cake has cream cheese frosting, you will want to store it in the fridge for best results!

  • In the Refrigerator: Keep your cake in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap. It will last for 3-4 days. You can serve as-is or allow to come to room temperature first.
  • In the Freezer: Pumpkin bundt cake can also be kept in the freezer. Wrap in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, then place in a freezer bag. It will keep for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before serving.

Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese

If you think a sloppy Joe grilled cheese sounds good, then just wait until you taste it! Tender, juicy, and filled with flavor inside cheesy, crisped bread. Well, it doesn’t get much better than that!

This mash-up of flavors is just about the best thing ever! I love a good hot sandwich and this one does not disappoint! If you love sandwiches as I do then go ahead and try this Meatloaf Sandwich, Grilled Cheese, and this yummy Corned Beef Sandwich!

A sliced sloppy joe grilled cheese on a plate.

Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese

A good mash-up of recipes might just be one of my favorite things! And combining a grilled cheese with a sloppy Joe is just plain genius. The flavors of the two complement each other so well! Plus, it really just takes a plain grilled cheese to the next level. It’s a win-win and is so easy to make! My family goes crazy over this meal because it’s simple, fast and we can even eat it on the go if we need to. Which is so helpful on those crazy busy nights!

This recipe only takes a few minutes to make and you can do it entirely on your stovetop! There is a lot of flavor in the sloppy Joe mix that I just love. It has a kick without having too much heat. It’s sweetened with brown sugar and this helps to keep the flavor calm while taking on a bold taste. It’s so yummy and then you add in the crispy outside bread and it’s a whole other level of delicious!

Ingredients in a Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese

Filled with yummy spices and cheese, this sloppy Joe grilled cheese is delicious! You will never want to eat a sloppy Joe without cheese again! See the recipe card below for a list of exact measurements.

  • Olive oil: I use regular olive oil but if you only have vegetable oil on hand, you could use that too!
  • Onion: Chop your onion up in fine pieces.
  • Ground beef: I always like to go with lean ground beef to keep the fat content down.
  • Garlic cloves: If you don’t have fresh cloves and only have minced garlic in your fridge, you could use that too! ½ tsp equals about 1 clove of garlic.
  • Ketchup: This helps with the tangy taste.
  • Brown sugar: The sugar calms down any heat that this takes on and gives it a deep, sweet flavor.
  • Chili powder: There isn’t too much of this so the dish isn’t too spicy!
  • Paprika: I absolutely love the subtle flavor that paprika brings to a dish.
  • Worchestershire sauce: This sauce brings in a delicious flavor!
  • Salt and pepper: Use these as much or little as you would like!
  • Butter: It doesn’t take a lot of butter and this helps it not to stick.
  • Mayonaise: If you haven’t cooked a grilled cheese with mayonnaise yet then you are in for a treat. It’s the BEST secret ingredient!
  • French bread: You can use any bread that you have on hand but bakery french bread is my personal favorite!
  • Cheddar cheese: This will stick it all together! The melted cheese combined with the meat is SOO good!!
2 pictures showing how to cooking the meat and add in spices.

How to Make a Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese

This meal is easy and delicious! It only takes a few minutes to make and it is so filling. Your family will go crazy over it!

  1. Sauté meat: In a medium sized skillet add the olive oil and onion over medium high heat. Sauté until almost tender and add the ground beef and cook and crumble until no longer pink.
  2. Mix in spices and simmer: Add the garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, Worcestershire sauce salt and pepper. Let simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Assemble the grilled cheese: Combine the butter and mayonnaise and spread on the outside of the bread. Lay the bread butter side down in a medium sized skillet. Sprinkle cheese on top of the bread. Put about ¼ cup meat mixture on top of cheese, sprinkle cheese on top of the meat and then top with the other slice of bread.
  4. Cook and flip: Cook for about 2-3 minutes over medium high heat, flip to the other side and continue to cook until golden brown and heated throughout

Cooking Tips

We all know how to grill up an easy sandwich but if you really want it to turn out just right, follow these cooking tips! Your bread will be crispy and the cheese will be melted to perfection!

  • How to avoid soggy bread: If you are having trouble getting that bread to crisp up just right, put it in the toaster first! Or toast both sides a bit in the pan before adding the cheese and meat. This dries the bread out and makes sure that it doesn’t end up soggy once you add all of the meat and cheese!
  • If your sandwich is falling apart: Sometimes, when you cook a hot sandwich and go to eat it, half of it falls apart! To avoid this, you need to make sure that it’s coated with enough fat. In this case, that fat is the mayo and butter! Make sure that both sides are entirely coated with the mayo and butter. This will help your sandwich stay together and toast more evenly.
  • How to avoid burning the bread: The tricky part about making the perfect hot sandwich is knowing when its ready to be flipped and cooked on the other side. For this sloppy Joe grilled cheese sandwich, each side should be golden brown by the time it’s ready to eat. To avoid burning it, turn down your heat. Cooking it slower and longer will get just the right crisp on the bread!

How to Store Leftovers

If you have some meat leftover, you can totally store this and eat some leftovers the next day! It makes a great lunch and is super easy to heat back up!

  • Refrigerator: Once your meat has cooled, place it in an airtight container and put it in your refrigerator. It can last for 2-4 days in your fridge!
  • Reheat: You can just reheat your meat in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or until heated through. Then, follow the recipe card for the instructions on how to make your sandwich. Everyone will be jealous of your delicious leftovers!

With this super easy recipe, you can have cake mix on hand for when a dessert craving hits! No grocery trip needed! The ingredients are most likely in your pantry right now. Not only do you get to stay at home, but this tastes better than any boxed cake mix you can buy!

But maybe you don’t make yellow cakes very often- I get that. What a lot of people don’t know, though, is that yellow cake mix comes in handy for so many different desserts! So, even if you’re not the biggest cake lover on the planet, this is still a super useful thing to have in your kitchen! Some of my all-time favorite dessert recipes utilize yellow cake mix. Banana cream cookies? Check. Lemon coconut bars? Double-check. I’ve compiled some of my favorite recipes below that use yellow cake mix as a base ingredient! Really, the options are endless.

Ingredients for Homemade Yellow Cake Mix

You only need 5 simple ingredients for this cake mix! You won’t need to buy boxed yellow cake ever again! All measurements can be found in the recipe card below. Note: This is just a blend of dry ingredients and you will need to add things like eggs and butter when you’re ready to make your cake. I have linked my tried and true yellow cake recipe below!

  • Cake Flour: Will give your cake structure and a fine texture. You can use all-purpose flour as well, but it will slightly alter the crumb of the cake.
  • Granulated Sugar: Added to your cake mix for the perfect sweetness!
  • Baking Powder and Baking Soda: A blend of both is necessary for a cake that rises well!
  • Salt: Salt is used to enhance the overall flavor of your cake.

How to Make Your Cake Mix

Just mixing a few basic ingredients is all you need to do here. Who knew the best cakes begin with the most simple foundation? I’ve provided a printable graphic of this recipe below so you can keep a physical copy on hand! This yellow cake mix is going to provide you with the most delicious of desserts!

  1. Mix Ingredients: Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and powdered milk.
  2. Store: in an airtight container or jar until ready to use.
Yellow cake mix printable graphic.

What Can I Make With Yellow Cake Mix?

Cookies, bars, cakes, you name it! Your yellow cake mix comes in handy for an array of desserts. Some of my other favorites are piña colada poke cake and pumpkin pie sheet cake. This super simple cake mix can be transformed into whatever your heart desires! All you have to do is add your favorite flavors, toppings, and fillings.

Note: There are typically 4 cups of batter in boxed cake mix. So when a recipe calls for a box of cake mix, just use 4 cups of your own!

Yellow Cake Mix Storage

  • At Room Temperature: Store your yellow cake mix in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It should keep for up to 5 months.

Note: If you live in a hot or humid climate, this can shorten the shelf life of your mix. Moisture can activate your leavening agents early, leaving you with a dense cake once you go to bake it.

Making Your Cake

Now that you have your cake mix ready, it’s time to bake! Making a homemade yellow cake is not only tasty but easy to do! You can find the full recipe here.

  1. Add Wet Ingredients to Cake Mix: In a large bowl, add one jar of your yellow cake mix and mix in 1 cup buttermilk, ¼ cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla, ½ cup vegetable oil, and 3 eggs. Note: Using room temperature wet ingredients will give you a batter free of lumps! Beat until everything is mixed together.
  2. Add to Pan: Add a smooth layer of batter into 2 greased 8-inch round cake pans and bake for 35-40 minutes. You’ll know your cake is done when a toothpick comes out clean or the center springs back when you touch it! Let cool completely before frosting.
  3. Frost: Add your favorite frosting! My favorite combo is yellow cake and chocolate frosting. I definitely recommend trying both chocolate buttercream and chocolate cream cheese frostings!

Tip: Don’t overmix your batter! This will make your cake dense. Mix only until your ingredients are incorporated smoothly and then stop.
